Interview with Katie Smith 24/06/2009 Katie Smith is one half of the duo behind New Zealand's favourite accessories label, Deadly Ponies. Deadly Ponies name has grown over the years due to their incredible bag, jewellery and clothing designs. Deadly Ponies is most known for their hand-made bags and amazing one-off jewellery pieces, but are now moving into producing more clothing. Deadly Ponies is known for their dark cannibalistic designs which include bunny heads, animal teeth, skulls and bones. I caught up with Katie last week to see what inspires her and some of her favourite things. Above: Katie Smith What inspires you? Animals textures, bats wings, birds wings, black cats, silly dogs. Describe yourself in three words? Katie Louise Smith What fragrance are you wearing right now? None, my Chanel has run out and I am too poor to buy any more, maybe someone should give some..... Favourite Boutique? Collette Favourite pair of shoes ? Right now - slippers What wardrobe item would you buy if you only had $100? Super cheap oversized t's, singlets, some recycled / 2nd hand what ever the correct term in - jeans Favourite less well know magazine ? Tiger Magazine If Deadly Ponies was a person who would they be like ? Someone a bit weird, and maybe tall and probably with brown hair. Kind of like a cross between David Bowie and Slash I think. Favourite editorial ever? Wallpaper 2009 Favourite Model? Would have to be Christobelle at the moment. She's the girl of the moment. Clothing item you consider timeless? I am going to cheat and say precious jewellery Favourite take out place ? Oh my gosh. That is a hard one, I love so many places. I would have to put McDonalds at the top of the list as they have been there always for me, even with a small budget but as the budget grew ( I had Burger Wisconsin for dinner - yum ) I can include Ravis, Burger Wisconsin, Otto Woo, Shakey Isles does good hot chocolate, you add the chocolate yourself.
